Middlebury Vermont Restaurant Dining Guide

Fire & Ice (802) 388-7166
With the unfortunate demise of the Dog Team Tavern, Fire & Ice now represents one of the longest standing restaurants in Middlebury, not to mention one of its finer dining joints. They feature a thick and hearty clam chowder and all of the entrees are delicious and large enough to feed two. The best part of the restaurant may be their never-ending salad bar, which offers anything from salad to sushi to shrimp cocktail. The restaurant also has a very cool interior with decorations ranging from Middlebury Campus front pages from the early 20th century to a large wooden motor boat which doubles a part of the salad bar. Also, check out the Big Moose Pub for a great night at the bar and a delicious and wallet-friendly pub menu.
Middlebury Market & Cafe (802) 388-6408
Its popularity stems from more than just the incredibly convenient location just one block past Twilight Hall. Whether stepping in for a quick bit of grocery shopping or going for lunch, Middlebury Market and Café is a must stop. Most of their sandwiches are quite tasty and for a price that ranges from $7 to $10 . They have great wood-fired pizzas, hot entrees and a huge selection of drinks, and then creamies for dessert.
Middlebury Inn and Restaurant (802) 388-4961
The building itself, right in the middle of town, is beautiful with its wrap-around porches and brick material. The food in the restaurant is equally impressive and you can enjoy anything from daily breakfasts, afternoon teas, lunch, dinner and a Sunday brunch to-die-for when they offer it. The dining rooms, different for each meal, are all extremely picturesque and tastefully decorated. Prices here are reasonable and students could afford it themselves, but definitely cajole the parents into taking you here over Parents’ Weekend.
Neil and Otto's (802) 388-6774
Not only do they offer attractive deals for the frugal student, but they also make a fine pie. Beyond the pizzas, their “Pizza Styx” are plentiful and scrumptious and they make mean chicken wings. Perhaps most exciting, though, they deliver late at night for those evenings when stumbling over to The Grille just seems too ambitious a task.
Noonie's Deli (802) 388-0014
Noonie's is the popular choice for Middlebury Students as Middlebury’s best deli. The Purple Passion, a giant of a sandwich with turkey, avocado and cheese is not to be passed up. Just by witnessing the sheer magnitude of your sandwich, you know that you’re getting your money’s worth. However, the freshest meats, daily baked bread and crisp vegetables come together to create Middlebury’s ultimate sandwich.
Roland's Place Restaurant and The 1796 House B&B (802) 453-6309
The owner of this fine restaurant--Roland himself--is a great friend to Middlebury students. He frequently offers huge discounts on dinners to students who may otherwise opt for cheaper dining options. But even on non-discounted nights, the French menu won't break the bank. The food is well prepared and presented, but not too over-the-top fancy. The atmosphere is also elegant, but homey at the same time--in fact, you can book a room and enjoy breakfast, too. And perched atop the hill in New Haven only a few minutes from campus, Roland's Place is a great option for graduation parties.
The Starry Night Cafe (802) 877-6316
"Tucked away in a quaint, quiet house off route seven, the Starry Night Cafe combines small town ambience, and locally inspired dishes to reach the pinnacle of vermont dining. With a friendly waitstaff always willing to strike up a conversation, and a two small, tastefully decorated dining rooms, the Starry Night Cafe understands that the dining experience goes beyond the food. Once there however, one is sure to be void of dissappointment. Starting with salads combining brilliant blood oranges and tart nectarines, a meal at the Cafe is an awakening for your tastebuds. As far as entrees are concerned, the pork loin served for a bed of grits and surrounded by locally grown vegetables is superb, as is the seasonal risotto. Make sure to save room for desert, as the Starry Night Cafe puts a touch of Vermont on an American classic with their Carrot Cake topped with Maple Cream Cheese frosting. Well worth the drive to get there (20+ minutes north on Route 7), the Starry Night Cafe is a must for any Middlebury student.
The Storm Cafe (802) 388-1063
Some of the best that Middlebury's dining has to offer. With a lovely location on the banks of Otter Creek, enjoy charming décor inside or sit and enjoy your meal on the waterfront. And believe you me, their food matches and exceeds the lovely view. The Sirloin Tournedos are juicy cuts of meat, and as with all their other entrees, served with a fine selection of crisp and fresh local produce. For lunch, enhance your toasted bread or wrap with the Fatoush Salad, which as the most refreshing lemon mint dressing I've ever tasted.
Tully and Marie's (802) 388-4182
They offer one of the most popular deals for Middlebury students, the two-for-one pad thai Tuesdays. Beyond the good deal, you are getting fresh tasting American cuisine with a slight international twist. Definitely take a break from Proctor brunches and traverse down for Tully & Marie's tremendous Sunday brunch. The prices are more than manageable and the decorations, ambiance and view over Otter Creek are all quite pleasant.
Two Brothers Tavern (802) 388-0002
The warm and elegant decorations and ambiance in both the bar and restaurant are teamed up with a friendly wait staff and a delicious menu to create one of Middlebury’s finest dining spots and watering holes. Two Brothers takes American classics, such as the Philly cheese steak, chicken wings and meatloaf, and does a fantastic job with them. Everything on the menu is something you should try. With reasonable prices, the Tavern is perfect for anything from a quick dinner off-campus to a Parent’s Weekend meal.
Waybury Inn and Restaurant (802) 388-4015
A favorite of the Middlebury College Ski Patrol, Waybury Inn is worth the drive to East Middlebury (on Rt. 125). Offering over one hundred different beers and its famous chili (at very reasonable prices), the pub is a great spot when heading out for dinner with the boys. The dining room offers one of the best menus- a must for Parents Weekend. Little known fact, the Waybury Inn was used as the front for the 1980's sitcom The Bob Newhart Show.
