NH Legislature will consider changing governor term

Changing terms of office from two years to four years is a good idea. Also, the legislature should meet every other year, instead of annually as it does now. This is done in Texas and it works quite well.

Elections every other year and legislative sessions every year are very expensive ---- and unnecessary. The state would save the funds spent on one election and two legislative sessions in a four year cycle. An Office of Administration, fully independent of the governor and empowered with investigative authority, could be created that would essentially be a watchdog agency that would prevent abuses of executive power.

The next target ought to be a reduction of the length of the legislative session. Three months ought to suffice. This could be managed by efficient pre-filing of legislation, on-line commentary, streamlined budgeting processes and mandatory time limits for debate and voting. This would result in further cost-savings and reduced imposition of time demands on legislators.
