What advice would you offer to someone comtemplating this course for next semester?

Ghazi is by far my favorite teacher at Middlebury...and unfortunately for us, he's leaving next year. Nevertheless, I'd recommend taking Arabic to anyone who's interested in languages or in the region--but be prepared for some work. Ghazi always did a great job making the classes fun, even if it was just by making fun of us, and did a great job teaching us about culture, too, not just language.
