While Lorraine is a new professor, she truly cared that we understood the concepts presented, and took extra time to explain the readings for clarification. This often made the lectures long and uninteresting, but I feel that I understood everything and took away a solid basic understanding of philosophy. She genuinely cares about her students, and her assignments were clear and helped to further understanding.

A decent introduction class. I didn't like the fact that the lectures were essentially reiterations of the reading, she literally tells you piece by piece what your homework was. Sometimes this good because the material is harder to comprehend, but oftentimes it was just unnecessary. Where this class really shows its worth is in discussion sections which, if enough people do the reading, can be very interesting and productive. I feel like I also learned a lot from the essay assignments, it's a good way to get acquainted to writing in a different style. Lorraine is alright as a professor, and her grading standards were usually pretty clear.

The discussions were the highlight of this class - the most thought-provoking and interesting time. Besser-Jones can be a boring lecturer if the class doesn't understand a certain point, but overall she was engaging, interesting, and dug into the material to help everyone grasp all of the ideas in the text. I found the different perspectives she presented to be fascinating, and would suggest this class to anyone who wants to take 1 or many philosophy courses.

This class was pretty interesting and very light on reading. All of the readings were covered in class so anything not clear (or not read) was easily understood. Professor Besser-Jones is very nice and the class is fair as long as you pay attention and take notes.

This class is a very interesting introduction to the many basic questions of philosophy and the human experience. This is one of the most valuable classes I have ever taken because the concepts covered in the class have direct application to anyone's life. The readings are short, and the Prof. Besser-Jones explained them all in class the next day.

The class was really great! The professor is very fair, but sometimes moves a little too slowly, spending most of the time going over every reading in great detail.
