It was so great. Really a treat compared to the other classes I was taking. You do, however, need to constantly participate.

One of the most interesting classes I've taken at Midd... Spackman is a great prof, extremely knowledgable, and a very nice guy. Work load is extremely light and only includes about 30 min. of reading before each class, a weekly ungraded response paper, 3 bigger papers, and a final group project. I would highly recommend this class to everyone!

This is a great class, J. Spack rocks and it challenges your views on important issues. Worth taking for sure.

This class is extremely interesting, but you will determine what you get out of it. The large class size forces Spackman to lecture and the discussions are the best. He is both fair and interesting, and the courseload is fairly light. I highly recommend this course.

Professor Spackman was amazing. The issues discussed in this class were extremely interesting and relevant to everyday life. I strongly recommend this course.

In my 3+ years at this school, this was probably the most interesting class I have ever taken at Middlebury. The issues are ones that you will discover are not quite as black and white as they seemed before you walked into class on the first day. Two lectures and one discussion section a week; a relatively short reading assignment for every class meeting, a one-page response paper every two weeks or so, three longer papers, and an in-class debate for each topic covered during the semester. Take this class!

Prof Spackman is very friendly and creates engaging discussions. The workload is pretty light and all the reading is really interesting. I'd easily recommend his class to all intro philosophers
